Matcha Preparation

Method

Matcha Preparation

  1. 1

    Sift the Matcha Powder

Using a fine mesh sieve, sift 2 teaspoons of matcha green tea powder into a bowl. This helps to avoid clumps and ensures a smooth drink.

  2. 2

    Add Hot Water

Heat water to just below boiling (about 80°C or 175°F). Pour 60 ml of hot water over the sifted matcha powder in the bowl.

  3. 3

    Whisk the Mixture

Using a bamboo whisk (chasen) or a regular whisk, whisk the matcha and water together in a zigzag motion until it is frothy and well-combined. This should take about 30 seconds.

  4. 4

    Optional: Prepare Matcha Latte

If you prefer a matcha latte, heat 120 ml of milk separately (dairy or plant-based) and froth it. Pour the frothed milk into the matcha mixture and stir gently.

  5. 5

    Sweeten to Taste

Add your choice of sweetener (honey, sugar, or syrup) to the matcha drink, stirring until dissolved. Adjust the sweetness according to your preference.

  6. 6

    Serve

Pour the matcha into a cup or bowl. Enjoy your matcha hot or iced, as preferred.
