Method

Preparing the Tea

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a kettle, bring 4 cups of filtered water to a boil. It’s important to use fresh, high-quality water for the best flavor.

  2. 2

    Measure Tea Leaves

While the water is heating, measure out 2 tablespoons of Kukicha tea leaves and place them in a teapot or infuser.

  3. 3

    Steep the Tea

Once the water has boiled, remove it from heat. Let it cool for about 30 seconds to ensure the water is around 80°C (176°F), which is optimal for Kukicha. Pour the hot water over the tea leaves and let them steep for about 3 to 5 minutes, depending on your taste preference.

  4. 4

    Strain and Serve

After steeping, strain the tea leaves from the liquid using a fine mesh strainer or remove the infuser. Pour the brewed Kukicha tea into cups.

Optional Enhancements

  1. 5

    Sweeten if Desired

If you prefer a sweeter taste, add honey to the brewed tea, stirring gently to dissolve.

  2. 6

    Add Milk (Optional)

For a creamier texture, you can add 1 tablespoon of milk to each cup, stirring well to combine.
