Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Slowly stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 7

    Prepare the Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add in the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the milk, until the frosting is smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  2. 8

    Frost the Cake

Once the cake layers are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.

Serving

  1. 9

    Serve the Cake

Slice the cake and serve each piece with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
