Pasta

Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the macaroni

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Cheese Sauce Preparation

  1. 2

    Make the roux

In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the all-purpose flour and cook for about 1 minute until bubbly and golden.

  2. 3

    Add milk

Slowly whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens and bubbles, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 4

    Add cheeses and seasonings

Remove the pot from heat and stir in the shredded mozzarella and fontina cheeses until melted. Then add black pepper, garlic powder, and mustard powder. Mix until well combined.

Combine and Bake

  1. 5

    Combine pasta and cheese sauce

Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir well to coat all the pasta.

  2. 6

    Prepare the topping

In a small bowl, mix together the breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, and melted butter until combined.

  3. 7

    Assemble and bake

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the macaroni and cheese mixture to a greased baking dish. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the top. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
