Method

Filling Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Meat

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 2

    Sauté Vegetables

Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, and bell pepper to the skillet. Sauté for 5 minutes until the vegetables are softened.

  3. 3

    Add Spices and Tomato Paste

Stir in the cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper, followed by the tomato paste. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.

  4. 4

    Mix in Additional Ingredients

Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly. Stir in the chopped boiled eggs and green olives until evenly combined.

Pastry Preparation

  1. 5

    Make the Dough

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Add the softened butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  2. 6

    Add Water

Gradually add the cold water, mixing until a dough forms. Do not overmix.

  3. 7

    Chill the Dough

Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up.

Assembly and Baking

  1. 8

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

  2. 9

    Roll Out the Dough

On a floured surface, roll out half of the dough into a large rectangle. This will be the bottom crust.

  3. 10

    Add Filling

Place the dough into a greased pie dish or baking tray. Fill with the meat mixture, spreading it evenly.

  4. 11

    Cover with Dough

Roll out the remaining dough and cover the filling. Seal the edges by crimping them with a fork or your fingers.

  5. 12

    Brush with Egg Wash

Brush the top of the pastry with the beaten egg for a shiny finish.

  6. 13

    Bake the Pastel

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.

  7. 14

    Cool and Serve

Once baked, remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
