Method
Cocktail
- 1
Combine and shake
Add the aged rum, Amaro Montenegro, fresh orange juice, fresh lime juice, grenadine, honey syrup (or simple syrup), and Angostura bitters to a cocktail shaker. Fill the shaker with ice until about three-quarters full.
- 2
Shake vigorously
Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds, until the shaker is well-chilled and the exterior is cold and slightly frosted.
- 3
Double strain
Strain the cocktail through a fine mesh strainer (or double strain with a Hawthorne and fine strainer) into a chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass. This removes small ice shards and any pulp from the fresh juices.
Garnish & serve
- 4
Express an orange peel over the drink by holding the peel with the outer skin facing down above the glass and giving it a firm twist to release oils onto the surface. Run the peel around the rim, then drop it into the glass or lay it on the rim. Add a Luxardo or maraschino cherry on a pick and serve immediately.
