Chill glass
Place a coupe or Nick & Nora glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the drink to chill it.

Measure and combine
Add 1 oz bourbon, 1 oz Aperol, 1 oz amaro (Nonino or similar), and 1 oz fresh lemon juice into a cocktail shaker.

Add ice and shake
Fill the shaker with about 6 large ice cubes, cap the shaker, and shake vigorously for 12–18 seconds until the outside of the shaker is well chilled and you see good dilution.

Prepare glass
If you chilled the glass with ice water, dump the ice water out. If you used the freezer, remove the glass.

Double-strain and serve
Double-strain the contents of the shaker through a Hawthorne strainer and a fine-mesh strainer into the chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass to remove small ice shards and lemon pulp.

Garnish
Express a lemon twist over the drink to release oils, rub it on the rim if you like, then drop it into the glass or float a thin lemon wheel on the surface. Serve immediately.
