Method

Garnish & glass prep

  1. 1

    Prepare glass rim

Choose a rocks or coupe/margarita glass. Run the lime wedge around the outer rim of the glass to moisten it. Pour the coarse salt onto a small plate and gently press the moistened rim into the salt to create an even salted edge. Set the glass aside to allow the salt to adhere.

Cocktail

  1. 2

    Juice limes

Roll 1–2 fresh limes on the counter to loosen juices, then cut and juice until you have 1 ounce of fresh lime juice (about 1 medium lime). Strain if you prefer no pulp.

  2. 3

    Combine ingredients

In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz blanco tequila, 1 oz Cointreau (or triple sec), 1 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.25 oz agave syrup if you prefer a touch of sweetness. Add a generous handful of ice (about 1 cup / enough to fill the shaker).

  3. 4

    Shake

Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for about 10–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker becomes very cold and frosty. This fully chills and slightly dilutes the drink for balanced flavor.

  4. 5

    Strain & serve

If serving on the rocks: fill the prepared glass with fresh ice and double-strain the cocktail into the glass (use a fine mesh strainer if available). If serving neat (up in a coupe): double-strain into the prepared chilled glass without ice. Garnish with the reserved lime wedge on the rim or floated on the drink.
