Method
Cocktail
- 1
Prepare espresso
Brew 1 oz (about 30 ml) of fresh espresso. Use a fresh shot pulled just before mixing; allow the espresso to rest for 10–20 seconds so it is still hot but not boiling. This helps create crema during shaking.

- 3
Measure ingredients
Using a jigger, measure 2 oz vodka, 1 oz coffee liqueur, 1 oz freshly brewed espresso, and 0.5 oz simple syrup. Add them to your cocktail shaker.
- 4
Add ice and shake vigorously
Add 6 ice cubes to the shaker. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 15–20 seconds. The vigorous shake chills the mixture and creates a thick, silky crema from the espresso.
- 5
Double strain and pour
Remove the chilled glass's ice water (if used). Strain the cocktail through the shaker's strainer into the martini glass. For an extra-smooth texture, use a fine strainer to catch small ice shards and coffee grounds while pouring.
- 6
Garnish
Carefully place three coffee beans on the surface of the foam in a line or triangle. This traditional garnish also smells aromatic when you sip.
- 7
Serve
Serve immediately while cold and the foam is fresh.

Use the cocktail shaker to mix and aerate the ingredients. Use a jigger to ensure accurate measurements. Chill the martini glass ahead of time for best presentation. Optionally use a fine strainer when pouring for an extra-smooth finish.
