Measure and combine
In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz London dry gin, 0.5 oz maraschino liqueur, 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.25 oz crème de violette, and 0.25 oz simple syrup if you prefer a touch more sweetness.

Add ice and shake
Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup) and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds, until the outside of the shaker is cold and slightly frosted.

Strain
Empty the ice water from the chilled glass if used. Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or martini glass using a Hawthorne and a fine mesh strainer to remove small ice chips and ensure a smooth texture.

Garnish and serve
Garnish with a single brandied or maraschino cherry placed in the bottom of the glass or on a pick. Serve immediately.
