Method

Prep the Potatoes

  1. 1

    Cut the Potatoes

Wash and peel the russet potatoes. Cut them into fries of your desired thickness.

  2. 2

    Soak the Fries

Soak the cut fries in cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch.

Prepare the Batter

  1. 3

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper.

  2. 4

    Add Wet Ingredients

Gradually add the beer and ice water to the dry ingredients, whisking until smooth.

Fry the Potatoes

  1. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a deep pot or fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 6

    Coat and Fry

Remove fries from the water and pat dry. Dip them in the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Fry in batches for 4-6 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.

Serve

  1. 7

    Enjoy

Serve the beer battered fries hot with your favorite dipping sauces.
