Method

Pork Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Pork

In a small bowl, mix together salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Rub this spice mixture all over the pork shoulder to ensure it is evenly coated.

  2. 2

    Cook the Pork

Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a slow cooker. Pour the apple cider vinegar and chicken broth over the pork. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily pulls apart with a fork.

  3. 3

    Shred the Pork

Once the pork is cooked, remove it from the slow cooker and place it on a cutting board. Use two forks to shred the meat into bite-sized pieces. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker, mixing it with the cooking juices.

BBQ Sauce Preparation

  1. 4

    Combine Ingredients

In a medium saucepan, combine ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.

  2. 5

    Cook the Sauce

Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Reduce the heat to low and let it cook for 15-20 minutes until it thickens slightly.

  3. 6

    Mix with Pulled Pork

Once the sauce is ready, pour it over the shredded pork in the slow cooker. Stir well to combine and let it cook on low for an additional 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Sandwich Assembly

  1. 7

    Assemble the Sandwich

Toast the hamburger buns lightly if desired. Place a generous portion of the pulled pork mixture on the bottom half of each bun. Top with a spoonful of coleslaw and cover with the top half of the bun.

  2. 8

    Serve

Serve the pulled pork sandwiches warm with extra BBQ sauce on the side if desired.
