Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it is hot enough for baking.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, cocoa powder, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, mix together the milk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.

  5. 5

    Add Food Coloring

If desired, add food coloring to the batter and mix until the color is evenly distributed.

Baking

  1. 6

    Prepare the Baking Pan

Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan to prevent sticking.

  2. 7

    Pour Batter

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.

  3. 8

    Bake

Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Finishing Touches

  1. 9

    Cool the Cake

Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

  2. 10

    Prepare Toppings

While the cake is cooling, prepare the toppings by whipping the cream and washing the berries.

  3. 11

    Serve

Once the cake is cool, dust the top with powdered sugar, and serve with fresh berries and whipped cream.
