Method
Cake Preparation
- 1
- 2
Melt Chocolate and Butter
In a heatproof bowl, combine the dark chocolate and unsalted butter. Melt them together over a double boiler or in the microwave in 30-second increments until smooth and combined. Allow to cool slightly.
- 3
Mix in Sugar and Eggs
Stir in the granulated sugar until well combined. Add the large eggs and the egg yolk, one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition.
- 4
Add Flour and Flavoring
Gently fold in the all-purpose flour, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- 5
Fill Ramekins
Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling them about 2/3 full.
- 6
Bake
Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is still soft.
- 7
Cool and Serve
Let the cakes cool in the ramekins for 1 minute. Carefully invert each ramekin onto a plate, allowing the cake to release. Serve immediately with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
