Prepare the Onions
Peel the onions and slice them into 1/4 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set them aside.

Make the Batter
In a bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well. In another bowl, whisk together the egg and milk, then combine with the dry ingredients until smooth.

Coat the Onion Rings
Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Then coat with breadcrumbs.

Fry the Onion Rings
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Fry the coated onion rings in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
