Chili Preparation

1

Sauté Vegetables

In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, garlic, bell pepper, carrot, and celery. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are softened.

2

Brown the Beef

Add the ground beef to the pot. Cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until it's browned and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes.

3

Add Seasonings

Stir in the chili powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Cook for an additional 2 minutes to toast the spices.

4

Combine Ingredients

Add the canned diced tomatoes, kidney beans, black beans, and beef broth to the pot. Stir everything together until well combined.

5

Simmer

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and let it simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Serving Suggestions

6

Prepare Garnishes

While the chili is simmering, prepare your garnishes. Chop the green onions and cilantro, and set aside.

7

Serve

Ladle the chili into bowls. Top with sour cream, shredded cheese, chopped green onions, and cilantro as desired.
