Method

Burger Patty Preparation

  1. 1

    Form the Patties

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently until combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Shape the Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape them into burger patties, about ¾ inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty using your thumb to help them cook evenly.

Cooking the Patties

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill

Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side, then flip and add a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty. Cook for another 3-4 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and the patties are cooked to your desired doneness.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 5

    Toast the Buns

If desired, toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until lightly golden.

  2. 6

    Build the Burger

On the bottom half of each bun, layer lettuce leaves, the cooked patty with melted cheese, a slice of tomato, red onion rings, pickles, and your choice of ketchup and mustard. Cap with the top half of the bun.
