Method
Cake Preparation
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
Mix Butter and Sugars
In a large bowl, cream together the unsalted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Add Eggs and Vanilla
Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
Combine Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Combine Mixtures
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
Bake the Cake
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool the Cake
Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Butterscotch Sauce Preparation
Make the Sauce
In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the brown sugar until dissolved. Gradually add the heavy cream, whisking continuously until smooth.
Add Vanilla
Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
Serving
Plate the Cake
Slice the warm butterscotch cream cake and place a slice on each plate.
Add Gelato and Sauce
Top each slice with a scoop of vanilla bean gelato and drizzle with butterscotch sauce.
