Preparation
- 1
Make the Dough
In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, sugar, and yeast. Add lukewarm milk and mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- 2
Prepare Butter
While the dough is rising, prepare the butter layer. Place softened butter between two sheets of parchment paper and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick. Refrigerate until firm.
- 3
Assembling Croissants
- 4
Shape the Croissants
Roll out the laminated dough into a large rectangle. Cut into triangles. Place chocolate chips at the base of each triangle and roll them up tightly from the base to the tip.
- 5
Proof
Place the rolled croissants on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffy.
- 6
Egg Wash
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Whisk together egg and water. Brush the mixture over the croissants to give them a golden color when baked.
- 7
Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
