Fried Mussels
Method
Preparation and Cooking
- 1
Prepare the Mussels
Rinse the mussels under cold water and scrub the shells to remove any debris. Discard any mussels that are open and do not close when tapped.
- 2
Prepare the Breading
In a mixing bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, salt, and black pepper. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg and water until well blended. Combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients to create a batter.
- 3
Coat the Mussels
Dip each mussel into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated.
- 4
Fry the Mussels
Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the battered mussels in batches. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per batch. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- 5
Sauté the Hot Peppers
In a separate pan, sauté sliced hot peppers in a little oil until they are softened, about 3-5 minutes.
- 6
Serve
Serve the fried mussels hot, topped with the sautéed hot peppers and accompanied by Turkish almond tarator sauce.
