Equipment
Method
Prepare Crunch & Mix-ins
- 1
- 2
Break oatmeal cream pies
Take 1 of the whole oatmeal cream pies and break it into quarters. Reserve the other whole pie(s) for topping. If using an oatmeal-cream-pie flavored ice cream instead of mix-ins, break one pie to fold in later.
- 3
Prepare Sauces & Whipped Cream
- 4
Warm sauces
Warm the caramel sauce and the extra vanilla sauce slightly so they are pourable but not hot (microwave in 10–15 second bursts, stirring between, until easily pourable). Transfer each to a small squeeze bottle or keep in separate small bowls.
- 5
Whip cream
In a chilled mixing bowl, pour the cold whipping cream, add powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Whisk or beat on medium-high until soft peaks form (about 1–2 minutes with a hand mixer). Transfer whipped cream to a piping bag or zip-top bag with the corner snipped.
Assemble Tesla Coil Jar
- 6
Prepare the jar: take a tall jar or sundae glass. Drizzle about 1–2 tablespoons of the warmed vanilla sauce in a spiral along the inside wall of the jar, then follow with 1–2 tablespoons of warm caramel sauce to create decorative streaks. Tilt and rotate the jar to make even streaks; reserve remaining sauces for later drizzling.
- 7
- 8
Layer ice cream - first scoop: Using an ice cream scoop, add a generous 1/2–3/4 cup (about 1 scoop) of the softened vanilla ice cream into the bottom of the jar. Press down gently to create a stable base.
- 9
Add cereal and caramel bits: Sprinkle about 1.5–2 tablespoons of crushed Cinnamon Toast Crunch and 1 tablespoon of Caramel Bits over the vanilla scoop. Drizzle about 1 tablespoon of caramel sauce over this layer.
- 10
Second scoop - oatmeal cream pie: Add 1/2–3/4 cup (about 1 scoop) of the oatmeal cream pie ice cream (with folded-in chunks). Press gently. Add another sprinkle (1–2 tablespoons) of crushed cereal and a few caramel bits if desired.
- 11
Third scoop - cinnamon ice cream: Add 1/2–3/4 cup (about 1 scoop) of the cinnamon ice cream on top. Add another light sprinkle of crushed cereal and an interior drizzle (1 tablespoon) of vanilla sauce and 1 tablespoon of caramel sauce.
- 12
Finish & Garnish
- 13
Whipped cream and toppings: Pipe a generous swirl of the freshly whipped vanilla cream on top of the final scoop to create a high, even peak.
- 14
Place whole oatmeal cream pie: Gently press one whole oatmeal cream pie into the whipped cream at an angle so it stands or leans against the side of the jar.
- 15
Add Caramel Bits and cereal: Sprinkle 1–2 tablespoons of Caramel Bits and another tablespoon of crushed Cinnamon Toast Crunch over the whipped cream and around the oatmeal cream pie for contrast and crunch.
- 16
- 17
Final touch: If desired, add a small extra oatmeal cream pie on top or lean an extra cookie against the rim for a dramatic presentation. Serve immediately with a long spoon and napkin.
