Method

Preparing the Tea

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a kettle, bring 2 cups of water to a near boil (about 175°F or 80°C). Do not let it reach a full rolling boil, as that can make the tea taste bitter.

  2. 2

    Add Tea Leaves

Once the water is heated, remove it from the heat and add 2 teaspoons of green tea leaves to the water.

  3. 3

    Steep Tea

Allow the tea leaves to steep in the hot water for about 2-3 minutes. Adjust the steeping time according to your taste preference; less time for a lighter flavor, more time for a stronger flavor.

  4. 4

    Strain Tea

After steeping, use a fine strainer or tea infuser to strain the tea into a teapot or directly into cups, discarding the leaves.

Serving the Tea

  1. 5

    Add Optional Ingredients

If desired, add 1 teaspoon of honey for sweetness or a slice of lemon for a refreshing twist.

  2. 6

    Serve

Enjoy your freshly brewed traditional Japanese green tea while it's warm.
