Method

Salisbury Steak

  1. 1

    Prepare the Mixture

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper.

  2. 2

    Shape Patties

Form the mixture into four equal patties, each approximately 8 oz in size.

  3. 3

    Cook Patties

Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the patties for 4-5 minutes on each side, until browned and cooked through.

Brown Gravy

  1. 4

    Melt Butter

In the same skillet used for the patties, melt the butter over medium heat.

  2. 5

    Make Roux

Whisk in the flour until smooth, cooking for about 1 minute.

  3. 6

    Add Broth and Thicken

Gradually whisk in the beef broth and soy sauce, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens.

  4. 7

    Season Gravy

Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Cajun Onions and Mushrooms

  1. 8

    Heat Oil

In a separate skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.

  2. 9

    Cook Onions

Add sliced onions and cook until they are translucent, about 5 minutes.

  3. 10

    Add Mushrooms and Seasoning

Add sliced mushrooms and Cajun seasoning, cooking until mushrooms are tender, about 5 more minutes.

Fried Onion Tanglers

  1. 11

    Soak Onions

Soak thinly sliced onions in buttermilk for about 30 minutes.

  2. 12

    Dredge Onions

Dredge the soaked onions in flour mixed with salt.

  3. 13

    Heat Oil for Frying

Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).

  4. 14

    Fry Onions

Fry the onions in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per batch.

  5. 15

    Drain Onions

Remove and drain on paper towels before serving.
