Brownie Preparation

Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9 inch baking pan.

Melt the Butter
In a medium saucepan, melt 1 cup of unsalted butter over low heat. Once melted, remove from heat.

Mix Ingredients
Stir in 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 cup of brown sugar into the melted butter until well combined. Then mix in 3 large eggs and 1 tsp of vanilla extract.

Combine Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 cup of cocoa powder, 1 cup of all-purpose flour, and 1 tsp of salt.

Combine Wet and Dry
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix.

Bake the Brownies
Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean. Allow to cool.
Assemble the Sundae

Cut Brownies
Once the brownies are completely cool, cut them into squares.

Layer the Sundae
In serving bowls, place a brownie square at the bottom. Top with 1 cup of vanilla ice cream per bowl.

Add Toppings
Drizzle chocolate syrup generously over the ice cream, and if desired, sprinkle with chopped nuts and add a dollop of whipped cream on top.
