Method
To Prepare the Pretzel Dough
- 1
Activate the Yeast
In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until bubbly.
- 2
Mix the Dough
Add flour, salt, and melted butter to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- 3
Let the Dough Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
To Prepare the Crab Filling
- 4
Mix the Filling
In a medium bowl, combine cooked crab meat, cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, green onions, garlic powder, Old Bay seasoning, and salt. Mix until well combined.
To Shape the Pretzels
- 5
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- 6
Shape the Pretzels
After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope (about 18 inches) and shape into a pretzel, leaving a space in the middle for the crab filling.
- 7
Fill the Pretzels
Place a spoonful of crab filling in the center of each pretzel shape. Fold the ends over the filling and pinch to seal.
To Boil the Pretzels
- 8
Prepare the Bath
In a large pot, bring water and baking soda to a boil.
- 9
Boil the Pretzels
Carefully drop each pretzel into the boiling water for 30 seconds, then remove and place back on the parchment-lined baking sheets.
