Method

Marinate the Beef

  1. 1

    Prepare the Marinade

In a bowl, mix together the soy sauce, mirin, sake, sugar, minced garlic, minced ginger, and sesame oil until the sugar is dissolved.

  2. 2

    Marinate the Beef

Add the thinly sliced beef to the marinade, ensuring all pieces are coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for more flavor.

Cook the Rice

  1. 3

    Rinse the Rice

Rinse the short grain rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.

  2. 4

    Cook the Rice

In a rice cooker or pot, combine the rinsed rice and water. Cook according to your rice cooker's instructions or bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer covered for 15 minutes. Let it rest for 10 minutes after cooking.

Cook the Beef

  1. 5

    Grill the Beef

Heat a grill pan or frying pan over medium-high heat. Remove the beef from the marinade and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until nicely browned and cooked through.

Assemble the Dish

  1. 6

    Serve

Scoop the cooked rice into bowls, top with the grilled beef, and garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.
