Vegetable Tempura
Prawn Tempura
Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Vegetables
Wash and slice the zucchini, carrot, and sweet potato into thin strips. Trim the green beans.
- 2
Prepare the Prawns
Peel and devein the prawns, leaving the tails on for easier handling.
Batter and Fry
- 3
Make the Batter
In a bowl, mix the tempura flour, cold water, and salt until just combined. Do not overmix; some lumps are fine.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan, heat oil to 350°F (175°C) for frying.
- 5
Fry the Vegetables
Dip the vegetable strips into the batter, allowing excess to drip off, and carefully place them in the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, approximately 3-4 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- 6
Fry the Prawns
Dip the prawns into the batter and fry in the same hot oil until they turn golden and crispy, about 2-3 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Serving
- 7
Serve
Arrange the tempura vegetables and prawns on a serving platter. Serve immediately with dipping sauce, like soy sauce or tentsuyu.
