Dough Preparation

Activate Yeast
In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

Mix Dough
Add the flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms.

Knead Dough
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

First Rise
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.

Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 500°F (260°C) with a pizza stone or baking sheet inside.

Shape Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Stretch and shape the dough into a rectangle to fit a greased 9x13 inch baking pan.

Second Rise
Cover the pan with a cloth and let it rise for another 30 minutes.

Bake Pizza
Carefully transfer the pan to the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and crispy.

Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a few minutes, then garnish with fresh basil leaves before slicing and serving.
