Cooking the Pasta

Boil Water
In a large pot, bring 4-5 quarts of water to a rolling boil.

Add Salt
Once boiling, add 1 tablespoon of salt to the water.

Cook Fettuccine
Add the fettuccine pasta to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions, usually about 10-12 minutes, until al dente.

Drain Pasta
Reserve 1 cup of pasta water, then drain the fettuccine in a colander.
Making the Alfredo Sauce

Melt Butter
In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 1 cup of butter.

Add Heavy Cream
Slowly pour in 1 cup of heavy cream, stirring continuously and bring to a gentle simmer.

Add Cheese and Seasoning
Stir in 1 cup of grated Parmesan cheese, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Continue to stir until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.
Combining Pasta and Sauce

Combine
Add the drained fettuccine to the Alfredo sauce and toss to coat the pasta evenly.

Adjust Consistency
If the sauce is too thick, add a little reserved pasta water until the desired consistency is reached.
Serving

Serve the fettuccine Alfredo hot, garnished with chopped fresh parsley.
