Pork Preparation
- 1
Season the Pork
In a small bowl, mix together salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Rub the spice mixture all over the pork shoulder, ensuring it covers all sides. Let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to 1 hour to absorb the flavors.
- 2
Add Liquid Smoke
After seasoning, drizzle liquid smoke over the pork shoulder, making sure to coat it evenly.
Cooking Process
- 3
Prepare the Cooking Liquid
In a large bowl, combine apple cider vinegar, BBQ sauce, and water. Mix well and set aside.
- 4
Cook the Pork
Place the seasoned pork shoulder into a slow cooker or an oven-safe pot. Pour the prepared cooking liquid over the pork. If using a slow cooker, cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork. If using an oven, cover the pot with a lid or aluminum foil and cook at 300°F (150°C) for approximately 4-5 hours.
- 5
Shred the Pork
Once the pork is fully cooked, remove it from the cooker or oven and let it rest for about 15 minutes. Use two forks to shred the meat into bite-sized pieces, discarding any excess fat.
Serving
- 6
Assemble the Sandwiches
Serve the pulled pork on buns. Optionally top with coleslaw for added crunch and flavor. Serve immediately and enjoy!
