Brew Ingredients
Brewing Process
1. Prepare the Water
Start by boiling 10 cups of water in a large pot. This will be the base for your brew.
2. Add Malted Barley
Once the water reaches a rolling boil, slowly add 2 cups of malted barley while stirring continuously. This will help to extract the sugars needed for fermentation.
3. Simmer the Mixture
Reduce the heat and allow the mixture to simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
4. Add Hops
After 30 minutes, add 1 cup of hops to the mixture. This will give your brew its characteristic bitterness and aroma.
5. Cool the Brew
Once the hops have been added, remove the pot from heat and allow the mixture to cool down to room temperature.
6. Add Yeast
Once cooled, add 1 tablespoon of yeast to the brew. Stir gently to mix it in.
7. Ferment
Transfer the mixture to a fermentation vessel and seal it with an airlock. Allow it to ferment in a cool, dark place for about 1-2 weeks.
8. Add Corn Sugar
After fermentation is complete, dissolve 1 cup of corn sugar in a small amount of water and add it to the brew. This will carbonate your beer.
9. Bottling
Bottle the beer in sanitized bottles, leaving some space at the top. Seal the bottles and let them condition for another 1-2 weeks.
10. Enjoy
After conditioning, chill your bottles and enjoy your homemade beer, a tribute to America's oldest brewery!
