Method

Preparing the Dough

  1. 1

    Mix the Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tsp of salt, and 1 tsp of baking powder. Whisk together until well combined.

  2. 2

    Incorporate the Butter

Add 1 tbs of unsalted butter to the dry mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  3. 3

    Add Milk

Slowly pour in 1 cup of milk, mixing until the dough comes together. Knead gently for a few minutes until smooth.

  4. 4

    Chill the Dough

Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up.

Preparing the Filling

  1. 5

    Mix the Filling Ingredients

In a small bowl, combine 1 cup of fruit filling, 2 tbs of sugar, and 1 tsp of cinnamon. Stir until well mixed.

Assembling the Pies

  1. 6

    Roll Out the Dough

On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about 1/8 inch thickness.

  2. 7

    Cut and Fill the Dough

Using a round cutter or a glass, cut out circles of dough. Place 1-2 tbs of the filling in the center of each circle.

  3. 8

    Seal the Pies

Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Press the edges with a fork to seal.

Frying the Pies

  1. 9

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or pot, heat 2 cups of vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 10

    Fry the Pies

Carefully place the filled pies into the hot oil, a few at a time, and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.

  3. 11

    Drain the Pies

Remove the pies from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
