Potatoes

Oil for frying

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Cut the Potatoes

Rinse the Russet potatoes under cold water to remove any dirt. Peel the potatoes if desired, then cut them into evenly sized strips, about 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut potato strips in a large bowl and cover them with cold water. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch and improve crispiness.

Frying

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can use a thermometer to check the temperature.

  2. 4

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel to remove excess water.

  3. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a handful of potato strips to the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pot. Fry the potatoes for about 4-5 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

  4. 6

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Toss gently to coat evenly.

Serving

  1. 7

    Serve Hot

Serve the fresh cut fries immediately while they are hot and crispy. Enjoy them on their own or with your favorite dipping sauce.
