Method

Meatballs

  1. 1

    Prepare the Meatball Mixture

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, minced garlic, egg, salt, and black pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated.

  2. 2

    Form the Meatballs

Using your hands, form the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  3. 3

    Bake the Meatballs

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the meatballs for 20-25 minutes, or until they are cooked through and browned on the outside.

Marinara Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté the Aromatics

In a large saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute until fragrant.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes, followed by dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.

  3. 6

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, to allow the flavors to meld.

Assembly

  1. 7

    Combine Meatballs and Sauce

Once the meatballs are done baking, add them to the marinara sauce. Stir gently to coat the meatballs with the sauce.

  2. 8

    Assemble the Sub

Slice the sub rolls in half and place a few meatballs along the bottom of each roll. Spoon extra marinara sauce on top of the meatballs and add slices of provolone cheese.

  3. 9

    Melt the Cheese

Place the assembled subs under a broiler for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Remove from the oven and serve immediately.
