Brewing Process
1. Prepare the Ingredients
Gather all the ingredients. Core and chop the apples into small pieces.
2. Boil the Water
In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
3. Add Malted Barley
Once the water is boiling, add the malted barley. Stir well and let it simmer for about 30 minutes.
4. Add Hops
After 30 minutes, add the hops to the mixture. Continue to simmer for an additional 15 minutes.
5. Strain the Mixture
Remove the pot from heat and strain the mixture to remove solids, collecting the liquid in a fermenter.
6. Add Hunnie and Apples
Stir in the Hunnie and the chopped apples into the strained liquid.
7. Cool the Mixture
Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature before adding yeast.
8. Add Yeast
Once cooled, sprinkle the yeast over the top of the mixture. Stir gently to combine.
9. Ferment
Seal the fermenter with an airlock and let it ferment in a dark place for 1-2 weeks, or until fermentation stops.
10. Bottle the Lager
Once fermentation is complete, bottle the lager using sanitized bottles and let it carbonate for at least another week.
11. Enjoy
Once carbonated, chill the bottles and enjoy your homemade Hunnie Lager!
