Method
Cocktail Base
- 1
Measure and combine
Add 2 oz bourbon, 0.5 oz pure maple syrup, 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.25 oz orange curaçao and 2 dashes Angostura bitters into a cocktail shaker or mixing glass.
- 2
Optional smoke
If using smoked water or a touch of smoked simple syrup for extra campfire note, add a small splash (to taste) now — no more than 0.25 oz so the drink stays balanced.
- 3
Shake
Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted.
- 4
Prepare glass
Place a large ice cube or sphere into a chilled rocks glass.
- 5
Strain
Double-strain the shaken cocktail over the large ice cube into the rocks glass to remove small ice shards and any pulp.
Garnish & Finish
- 6
- 7
Aromatic twig (optional)
If using a tamarack or spruce twig for aroma: gently clap the twig between your palms to release the resinous fragrance, then rest it on the rim or float it briefly on the drink. Remove before drinking if uncertain about edibility or if guests prefer not to have it in the glass.
- 8
Serve
Serve immediately. Sip slowly to enjoy the interplay of warm bourbon, maple sweetness and bright citrus — a cocktail evoking woodsy, northern flavors.
Tools & Ice
- 9
Use a rocks glass and a single large ice cube to minimize dilution as you enjoy the drink. Ensure all tools are clean and chilled for best results.
