Method

Prepare the Fruit

  1. 1

Wash the orange, lemon, green apple, and strawberries thoroughly under cold water.

  2. 2

Slice the orange and lemon into thin rounds or half-moons, removing any seeds.

  3. 3

Core the apple and cut it into thin slices or small cubes.

  4. 4

Remove the stems from the strawberries and slice them in halves or quarters depending on size.

  5. 5

Set all prepared fruits aside in a large bowl.

Mix the Sangria Base

  1. 6

In a large pitcher, pour in the red wine, brandy, and Cointreau.

  2. 7

Add the freshly squeezed orange juice and lemon juice.

  3. 8

Stir to combine all the liquids well.

  4. 9

If desired, add simple syrup and mix until dissolved. Adjust sweetness to taste.

Combine and Chill

  1. 10

Add the sliced fruits to the sangria mixture in the pitcher.

  2. 11

Stir gently to incorporate the fruit with the liquids.

  3. 12

Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably 4–6 hours or overnight to allow the flavors to meld.

Serve

  1. 13

Just before serving, add ice cubes to glasses or the pitcher.

  2. 14

Top with chilled sparkling water or soda water for a fizzy finish, if desired.

  3. 15

Pour the sangria into glasses, making sure to include some fruit pieces in each glass.

  4. 16

Garnish with a few fresh mint leaves and serve immediately.
