Pasta

Method

Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil the Pasta

Bring 4 quarts of water to a boil in a large pot. Add 1 tablespoon of salt, then add the pasta. Cook according to package instructions (typically 8–12 minutes), stirring occasionally, until al dente.

  2. 2

    Drain the Pasta

Once cooked, drain the pasta in a colander. Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water if needed to adjust sauce consistency. Set the pasta aside.

Alfredo Sauce (Optional)

  1. 3

    Make Alfredo Sauce

In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 4 tablespoons of butter. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant. Pour in 1 cup of heavy cream and simmer for 2–3 minutes. Stir in 1 cup of grated Parmesan cheese. Stir until cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth. Season with 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. Add cooked pasta and toss to coat. Add reserved pasta water if needed to loosen sauce.

Tomato Sauce (Optional)

  1. 4

    Make Tomato Sauce

Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and chopped onion. Sauté for 3–4 minutes until softened. Pour in 28 oz of crushed tomatoes. Add 1 teaspoon dried oregano, 1 teaspoon dried basil, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, and 1 teaspoon sugar if desired. Bring to a simmer and cook for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Toss with cooked pasta and heat through.

Butter Sauce (Optional)

  1. 5

    Make Butter Sauce

In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 4 tablespoons of butter. Add 2 cloves of minced garlic and sauté for 1–2 minutes until fragrant. Stir in 2 tablespoons of chopped parsley, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. Add cooked pasta and toss to combine. Cook for 1–2 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
