Method

Mixing the Drink

  1. 1

    Muddle sugar and bitters

In a mixing glass, add the cane sugar, 2 dashes of Angostura bitters, and 1 dash of orange bitters. Add a splash (about 1 tsp) of water to help dissolve the sugar. Muddle gently until the sugar is mostly dissolved.

  2. 2

    Add bourbon

Pour 2 oz of Bulleit bourbon into the mixing glass with the muddled sugar and bitters mixture.

  3. 3

    Stir with ice

Fill the mixing glass with ice and stir for about 20–30 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted.

Serving

  1. 4

    Prepare glass

Place one large ice cube (fat ice) into a chilled Old Fashioned glass.

  2. 5

    Strain the drink

Strain the mixed drink over the large ice cube in the prepared glass.

  3. 6

    Garnish

Express the oils from an orange twist over the drink by holding it over the glass and giving it a twist, then drop it into the drink as garnish.
