Toppings
Method
Make the Pizza Dough
- 1
Activate the yeast
In a small bowl, combine the warm water, active dry yeast, and sugar. Stir gently and let sit for 5–10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix the dough
In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead the dough
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 5–7 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let the dough rise
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Assemble and Bake the Pizza
- 5
Preheat the oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while preheating.
- 6
Roll out the dough
Punch down the risen dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a 12-inch circle. Transfer to a baking sheet or pizza peel dusted with flour or cornmeal.
- 7
Add toppings
Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese evenly on top. If making pepperoni pizza, place pepperoni slices over the cheese.
- 8
Bake the pizza
Transfer the pizza to the oven and bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
- 9
Cool and serve
Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for 2–3 minutes. Slice and serve warm.
