Method
Ice Cream
- 1
Prepare ice cream base
In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, whole milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until the sugar is fully dissolved.
- 2
Chill the mixture
Cover the mixture and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight, to ensure it is thoroughly chilled before churning.
- 3
Churn the ice cream
Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions, usually about 20–25 minutes, until the mixture reaches a soft-serve consistency.
- 4
Freeze until firm
Transfer the churned ice cream into an airtight container and freeze for at least 2 hours, or until firm enough to scoop.
Chocolate Sauce
- 5
Combine dry ingredients
In a small saucepan, whisk together the cocoa powder and granulated sugar.
- 6
Add wet ingredients
Stir in the heavy cream, butter, and a pinch of salt. Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture comes to a gentle boil.
- 7
Simmer and finish
Reduce the heat and let the sauce simmer for 2–3 minutes, stirring occasionally until smooth and slightly thickened. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- 8
Cool slightly
Allow the sauce to cool for a few minutes before using. It can be served warm or at room temperature.
Serving
- 9
