Smoked Old Fashioned

Method

Smoked Old Fashioned

  1. 1

    Prepare the glass

Place a large ice cube in a rocks glass and set aside.

  2. 2

    Mix the cocktail

In a mixing glass, combine bourbon, simple syrup, and Angostura bitters. Stir well with ice for about 20 seconds until well chilled.

  3. 3

    Add smoke

Place wood chips on a heat-safe surface and use a culinary torch to ignite briefly. Capture the smoke with a cocktail smoking dome or inverted glass and let it fill with smoke.

  4. 4

    Assemble and smoke

Strain the cocktail into the prepared rocks glass over the ice cube. Place the smoke-filled dome over the drink and let it infuse for 30 seconds. Remove dome.

  5. 5

    Garnish

Express the orange peel over the drink by holding it over the glass and giving it a twist to release oils. Drop the peel into the glass along with a cherry.

Moxies Mule

  1. 6

    Muddle mint

In a copper mug or highball glass, gently muddle mint leaves with simple syrup to release aroma and flavor.

  2. 7

    Build the drink

Add vodka and lime juice to the mug. Fill the glass with ice.

  3. 8

    Top and stir

Top with ginger beer and gently stir to combine the ingredients.

  4. 9

    Garnish

Garnish with a lime wheel and a sprig of fresh mint.

Mojito

  1. 10

    Muddle mint

In a tall glass, muddle the mint leaves and simple syrup together to release the essential oils from the mint.

  2. 11

    Add liquids

Add the fresh lime juice and white rum to the glass. Stir gently to combine.

  3. 12

    Add ice and top

Fill the glass with ice and top with soda water. Stir lightly.

  4. 13

    Garnish

Garnish with a lime wedge and a sprig of mint.
