Vanilla Ice Cream

Method

Vanilla Ice Cream

  1. 1

    Mix the base

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, whole milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until the sugar is fully dissolved.

  2. 2

    Chill the base

Cover the bowl and refrigerate the mixture for at least 2 hours or until thoroughly chilled.

  3. 3

    Churn the ice cream

Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions, usually about 20–25 minutes.

  4. 4

    Freeze the ice cream

Transfer the churned ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for at least 3–4 hours or until firm.

Chocolate Sauce

  1. 5

    Combine dry ingredients

In a medium saucepan, combine the cocoa powder and granulated sugar. Stir to mix evenly.

  2. 6

    Add cream and butter

Add the heavy cream and unsalted butter to the saucepan and place over medium heat.

  3. 7

    Cook the sauce

Whisk constantly as the mixture heats up. Bring it to a gentle simmer and cook for 3–5 minutes until smooth and slightly thickened.

  4. 8

    Finish and cool

Remove from heat, stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Let the sauce cool slightly before serving.

Assembly

  1. 9

    Serve the dessert

Scoop the vanilla ice cream into serving bowls or cones. Drizzle generously with warm chocolate sauce and serve immediately.
