Cooking Pasta

Boil the Elbow Macaroni
In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add a pinch of salt and the elbow macaroni. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
Making Cheese Sauce

Add Milk
Gradually whisk in the milk, making sure to break up any lumps. Continue to whisk until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

Incorporate the Cheese
Reduce the heat to low, then stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, salt, black pepper, and mustard powder. Stir until all the cheese has melted and the sauce is smooth.
Combining and Serving

Combine Pasta and Cheese Sauce
Add the drained macaroni to the cheese sauce, stirring until the pasta is well coated.

Optional Topping
If you want a crunchy topping, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a small bowl, mix together the breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the mac and cheese in a baking dish, then bake for about 20 minutes until golden brown.

Remove from the oven (if baked) and allow to cool slightly. Serve warm and enjoy your creamy macaroni and cheese!
