Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water (about 110°F or 43°C) and sugar. Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the water and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the activated yeast mixture and olive oil.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Mix until a dough starts to form. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let the Dough Rise
Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
Pizza Assembly
- 5
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up as well.
- 6
Shape the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release air. Turn it out onto a floured surface and roll it out into a circle about 12 inches in diameter or your desired thickness.
- 7
Add Sauce and Cheese
Transfer the rolled-out dough onto a pizza peel or baking sheet. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the base, leaving a small border. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce.
- 8
Season the Pizza
Sprinkle dried oregano and black pepper over the cheese. If desired, add fresh basil leaves on top.
- 9
Bake the Pizza
Carefully slide the pizza onto the preheated oven or pizza stone. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
- 10
Slice and Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a couple of minutes, then slice into wedges and serve hot.
