Cocktail Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Muddle the Sugar

In a mixing glass, place the sugar cube and add the Angostura bitters on top. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to crush the sugar cube until it begins to dissolve.

  2. 2

    Add Water

Add about 1 teaspoon of water to the muddled sugar and bitters mixture. Stir gently until the sugar is fully dissolved.

  3. 3

    Pour the Whiskey

Add 2 ounces of bourbon or rye whiskey to the mixing glass. Stir the mixture gently to combine the flavors.

  4. 4

    Add Ice

Fill the mixing glass with ice cubes (about 3) and stir again for about 30 seconds until the drink is well chilled.

  5. 5

    Strain and Serve

Strain the cocktail into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice. If desired, you can use a large ice cube for a slower dilution.

  6. 6

    Garnish

Twist a slice of orange peel over the drink to release the oils, then drop it into the glass as a garnish.
