Preparation

  1. 1

    Chill the Glass

Begin by chilling your martini glass. You can do this by filling it with ice water and setting it aside while you prepare the cocktail.

  2. 2

    Measure the Ingredients

In a mixing glass, measure 2 ounces of gin and 0.5 ounces of dry vermouth. Adjust the amount of vermouth based on your preference for a drier or wetter martini.

  3. 3

    Add Ice

Fill the mixing glass with ice cubes to ensure the cocktail is well chilled.

  4. 4

    Stir the Mixture

Using a bar spoon, stir the mixture gently for about 30 seconds. This will chill the ingredients while also diluting them slightly.

  5. 5

    Strain into Glass

Discard the ice water from the chilled martini glass. Using a strainer, pour the chilled mixture into the glass.

  6. 6

    Garnish

Add an olive or a twist of lemon peel to the drink for garnish. If using a lemon twist, express the oils over the drink before placing it in.
