Method
Prepare the Sticky Rice
- 1
Soak the Sticky Rice
Rinse 1 cup of sticky rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Then, soak the rice in water for at least 4 hours or overnight for best results.
- 2
Steam the Sticky Rice
After soaking, drain the rice and place it in a steamer lined with cheesecloth or a clean kitchen towel. Steam over boiling water for about 20-25 minutes until the rice is tender and sticky.
Make the Coconut Sauce
- 3
Combine Ingredients
In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of coconut milk, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Stir over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved, but do not let it boil.
- 4
Mix with Rice
Once the rice is steamed, transfer it to a bowl and pour about 3/4 of the coconut sauce over the hot rice. Mix well and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes to absorb the flavors.
Prepare the Mango
- 5
Slice the Mango
Take the ripe mangoes, peel them, and slice them into thin strips or wedges.
Assemble and Serve
- 6
Plate the Dish
On a serving plate, place a generous portion of the sticky rice and arrange the sliced mango alongside. Drizzle the remaining coconut sauce over the top.
- 7
Garnish
Sprinkle sesame seeds or mung beans on top for an added crunch and visual appeal. Serve immediately.
