Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt.
- 3
Form Dough
Make a well in the center of the flour mixture. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- 4
Knead Dough
Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 5
Let Dough Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
Assembling and Baking
- 6
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat.
- 7
Prepare Sauce
In a bowl, mix the canned crushed tomatoes with salt and black pepper to taste.
- 8
Shape Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out into a 12-inch circle.
- 9
Add Toppings
Transfer the rolled-out dough to a pizza peel or baking sheet. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a border. Tear the fresh mozzarella into pieces and distribute evenly on top. Drizzle with olive oil.
- 10
Bake Pizza
Slide the pizza onto the preheated stone or place the baking sheet in the oven. Bake for 10-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- 11
Garnish and Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven and top with fresh basil leaves. Let it cool slightly before slicing and serving.
