Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Mix Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil.
- 3
Knead Dough
Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let Dough Rise
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Assembly and Baking
- 5
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.
- 6
Prepare Sauce
In a small saucepan, heat the tomato sauce over medium heat. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- 7
Shape Dough
Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness (about 12 inches in diameter).
- 8
Add Toppings
Transfer the rolled dough to a pizza peel or a baking sheet. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the surface. Tear the mozzarella into pieces and distribute it evenly on top. Add fresh basil leaves.
- 9
Bake Pizza
Drizzle with olive oil, then transfer to the oven (or onto the preheated pizza stone). Bake for 10-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
- 10
Serve
Remove from the oven, let it cool for a few minutes, then slice and serve hot. Enjoy your homemade Margherita pizza!
